Eno River State Park and Orange County

Eno River State Park is located along the banks of Eno River in Orange and Durham Counties and covers an area of 3900 acres. Eno River State Park and Eno City Park in West Point preserve the river in its natural habitat for over an area of 9 miles.

Orange County in North Carolina, US, named after William V of Orange, was formed in 1752. William V’s mother was Anne, the daughter of the King of Great Britain, George II and he later became the regent of Dutch Republic.

Orange County was formed by combining parts of Johnston, Bladen and Granville Counties. Later in 1771, parts of Orange County were taken and combined with other nearby counties to form new counties, which resulted in reduction of Orange County. Guilford County was formed by combining western and eastern parts of Orange and Rowan Counties respectively and Wake County from parts of Orange, Johnson and Cumberland Counties.






Chatham County was formed from the remaining southern portion of Orange County and in 1777 Caswell County was formed from the remaining northern half of Orange County. Alamance County was formed from a third of the western portion of Orange County and in 1881 Durham County was formed from the remaining eastern part of Orange County and a part of Wake County.
